List99

List 99’ is now called “Information held under Section 142 of the Education Act 2002”. This list is maintained by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) and contains the details of teachers who are considered unsuitable or banned from working with children in education. This list will not be available as a separate service from 12th October 2009 and will be replaced by 2 barred lists that can be checked with the enhanced checks.

List 99 is particularly controversial because of its confidentiality and the fact people can be included on the list even if they do not have criminal convictions against their name.

A List 99 Check is not a replacement for a CRB, but is considered to be the absolute minimum a person working with children must have.

If you would like an employee to start working prior to receiving a CRB Disclosure, you must ensure “that all the other recommended and mandatory pre-recruitment checks are carried out, including List 99.” -Safeguarding Children and Safer Recruitment in Education.

If your employee has a CRB Disclosure, it is not necessary to have them checked against the List 99 as this would have already been carried out within the CRB process.

Since Changing to United Medicare Ltd, I have found the staff very helpful, polite and engaging. The service provided is prompt and act as a very useful resource. The First POVA checks are promptly returned however I understand the CRB`s are longer with strict criteria having to be adhered to. Our plan is to continue with United Medicare Ltd, the service is great. Many Thanks
